Benton Cemetery

Visit Robert Morrison's grave in the Benton Cemetery. In 1871 Morrison was a prominent Benton merchant and engaged to be married when he joined a posse to help capture escaped convicts from Carson City, Nevada. He and native american Mono Jim were shot and killed at Convict Lake by the convicts.

Benton is centrally located to access many well known natural sites such as the Ancient Bristlecone Pine Forest, Laws Museum , Mono Lake, Mammoth Lakes, June Lake, designated Wilderness areas, and Yosemite National Park.

Explore Nature

Visit our 900 acre conservation easement within the ranch boundary or surrounding public lands where you find canyons, meadows, ponds, and wildlife. The ranch has cattle, horses and mules, and even a few buffalo as well as hundreds of birds and animals.

Hike

While there are no designed trails in the area the surrounding public lands contain hundreds of miles of primitive roads. And, the vegetation is high desert sagebrush so it is easy to make your own trails just about anywhere.

Benton's rich mining history can be enjoyed by using Historic Benton Hot Springs nonprofits self-guided walking tour of the historic town and cemetery.

Horse Trails

Only 45 minutes away near June Lake, Mammoth Lakes, Convict, McGee Creek, Rock Creek , and Bishop Creek you can take a day ride or overnight camp trip into the Ansel Adams and John Muir Wilderness Areas.

Historic Benton Hot Springs (HBHS) is a 501(3c) nonprofit corporation, whose mission is to preserve and restore this town's cultural and natural properties. Our key goals include keeping the town accessible to visitors and educating our visitors about the ongoing conservation of this unique environment and sharing the area's rich and fascinating history.
We depend upon your support to continue our mission. Our fun and fascinating fundraisers are coming back!
Mark every second Saturday of the summer months-plus December on your 2023 calendar. Please consider making a donation and attending one of our special fund raising events. Events include champagne reception and catered dinner along with presentations on our local natural and cultural history.
